Westin Diplomat: Chilled Water System Replacement

Westin-Diplomat

The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa
Chilled Water System Replacement

WestinThe Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa had a chilled water system that consisted of dual underground 24-inch chilled water mains which connected to the east and west side of the facility in the City of Hollywood, Florida. The Chilled Water System Replacement project consist of the design of 1,200 linear feet of dual 30-inch chilled water supply and return mains along public right-of-way to replace the existing 24-inch steel pipe system.

During the early project development phase a due diligence study was performed to determine whether to proceed with a traditional open-cut construction methodology or a non-traditional horizontal directional drill operation.

Westin -2Based on this earlier study, the project was to proceed using an open-cut method. The new 30-inch mains were designed using insulated HDPE pipe and interconnect the existing chilled water plant to the resort facilities located across A1A. Since the mains are within the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) right-of-way, coordination with FDOT and the City of Hollywood was required to obtain a public maintenance agreement for portions of the design lying within the public right-of-way. Biscayne Engineering prepared the utility plans, roadway plans for the reconstruction of the full right-of-way along the length of pipe, the maintenance of traffic plans, permitting, and construction phase assistance for the project. Biscayne served as the lead professional for the project.
